Work : Edmonton Rainy Day Work
on Sunday, July 06, 2008 - 04:33 PM MST - 764 Reads - Printer friendly page
News For a Sunday job there isn't much happening today.  The rain hit hard accompanied by severe lightning strikes.  I stood by the doorway expecting hail.

Well prepared with three king size blankets to protect my new to me automobile that I purchased from Sundance Mazda.  What did I purchase?  I found a really nice Red Coupe to replace the one I retireed.

The car in question is a 2004 Grand Am GT.  I like it already.  Actually I liked it the second I saw it online at www.SundanceMazda.com

I quickly cancelled my purchase of a 2004 RX-8 over at Derrick Dodge.  They were way to high on the price anyhow plus I didn't want the lousy milage and the constant maintenance accompanied by that particular make of sports car.

Otherwise the preceding two days were hell.  I mean for a 38 year old guy to have to start pushing standard vehicles around when they stall and won't start gets to be a bit ridiculous.  It was my backup summer car.  A 95 Ford Escort GT.

I had parked it with new timing belt, tires and brakes and was all set to replace the struts if she would have been agreeable to running decently.  I ended up only putting a new battery into her to get her to run after sitting for a year or so.

Turned the ignition and she fired over right away.  I drove off to the car wash and around town some with it.  Suddenly it just drops power over by Axe Music.  Bummer I thought.  Perhaps I don't have a good runner and maybe I should go back to my 93 sunbird with lousy air conditioning.

Not the case.  Too darn hot to drive without air conditioning.  So I kept trying to believe that the Ford would work better.  I put gas line antifreeze into it because I thought that there could have been some moisture in the tank.  It ran good and I forgot how fun it was to drive.  It actually would go faster than my Sunbird if I pushed it.

Finally after putting the Ford through due dilligence most of the night the darn thing dies again this time down town Edmonton.  Scary place too but I have no fear.  I also had my Haynes Repair manual so that kept me occupied until daylight arrived.  I went though as much as the electrical system as I could without a test light.

Still in the end I had to call Cliff's Towing and have the darn thing towed back to my place.  It could be something as simple as a fuel pump or perhaps it needs some injector work.  Either way I ended up having to spend a few thousand over ten to get my new ride.

It will have no problems navigating the roads to work and back in the Winter.  Whereas the RX-8 I was just about going to purchase would have been very impractical.  All around I believe I made a great purchase and would highly recommend Sundance Mazda for premium used vehicle purchases.  My 2004 Grand Am GT has a touch over 80,000 Km on it and I feel so much better about making a vehicle purchase that was right for me.  They even took my old Sunbird off my hands thankfully.

Note: Gone for supper as per usual at the Buffet Royal on Fort Road. I'll be sitting in the lounge watching the big screen. Hope there is a good movie on.
